Due to poor internet connections or other reasons, downloads for Windows or Microsoft Update may become corrupted. When that occurs, remove the software cache and download the update files again as follows:
- Start a command prompt by clicking Start –> Run. Enter "cmd" and click OK.
- Enter "net stop wuauserv" to stop the Windows Automatic Update Service.
- Enter “rd /s c:\windows\softwaredistribution”. This removes the update software download cache.
- Enter “net start wuauserv” to restart the Windows Automatic Update Service.
The update service will download the update files again from Microsoft’s server.
