.NET 4 causes SBS 2003 Performance Report alert

.NET 4 should not be installed on a SBS 2003 unless you’re installing an app that requires it. When you do this, the daily reports will now contain an alert letting you know the .NET 4 automatic service is not running and should be.

If you try to start the .NET 4 service, is starts and stops. So, to remove the alert from the report, install this Microsoft FixIt program.

Timeslips error - “Could not start the database engine. There may not be enough memory to use it or the software may be improperly installed”.

Timeslips can usually fix this error automatically, however a reboot can also correct this error. However if you’re working with an older version and it persists, do the following:

  • open the BDE Administrator in the Control Panel
  • click on the Configuration tab in the left panel
  • expand System and click on INIT
  • look for MAXFILEHANDLES and MEMSIZE. Each should be at least 200.
  • restart Timeslips
